NO HALO MOVIE ON THE WAY?

The movie adaptation of bestselling video game Halo could be in jeopardy, it has emerged.

Neill Blomkamp, the rumoured director for the film, has revealed that studio disputes have left the movie in development hell, with the huge budget needed throwing a spanner in the works.

Talking to Creativity Online, Blomkamp admitted that the franchise might not see the light of day.

"The film is entirely dead... in the configuration it was in," he said.

"Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration. It's not so much me as the entire vessel sank."

Blomkamp, whose background is in advertising and animation, explained that with entirely computer-generated characters a given for the film, the production costs could have been huge.

"Basically, it was a combination of; there were two studios involved that weren't getting along in the process of making it, Universal and Fox," he commented.

"That kind of stuff happens, it's a fragile industry. So the film collapsed at the end of last year, and it's been dead, ever since then. I'll be curious to see what happens".

An absorbing title featuring the enigmatic lead Master Chief - who never removes his reflective helmet - in a battle to protect human life against an alien coalition called the Covenant, Halo has been the Xbox's flagship game, with millions of devoted fans.

The third game in the franchise smashed the record for the most sales by an entertainment product in a single day last month, earning over £84 million in its first 24 hours on sale.
