NICOLE KIDMAN'S FATHER REVEALS TRUTH BEHIND BABY NAME

Nicole Kidman's father has explained why his new granddaughter was given the name Sunday Rose.

The baby girl was born on Monday morning, weighing 6 lbs, 7.5 oz, and is Kidman's first child with her country music star husband Keith Urban.

And speaking to the Australian Daily Telegraph newspaper, the Oscar-winning actress' father Dr Antony Kidman has revealed that Sunday Rose Kidman Urban was named after Sunday Reed, the muse of early 20th century artist Sidney Nolan.

"I have read a bit about Sunday Reed and her husband John – she was a key mover and shaker in the arts around the beginning of the century," he said.

"The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it."

According to the newspaper, Kidman and Urban recently visited a Nolan exhibition in Sydney, which included an exhibit with the inscription: "When you are young you are given a good view of life, because of your closeness to birth."

The pair were married in Manly, Australia in June 2006 and recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary at their gated community home in Nashville.

The Cold Mountain star adopted two children with ex-husband Tom Cruise but disclosed last year that she had suffered two miscarriages during their ten-year relationship.

She can next be seen in Baz Luhrmann's Australia, reuniting with director for the first time since 2002's Moulin Rouge! for which they both received Oscar nominations.
