NICKY WIRE WANTED TO BURY NEW MANICS ALBUM

NICKY WIRE tried to convince fellow members of the MANIC STREET PREACHERS to ditch an album based on the lyrics of RICHEY EDWARDS.

EDWARDS, who was the main songwriter for the band until his disappearance in 1995, had left a folder of unrecorded lyrics, which the group had always been reluctant to look at.

However, the group eventually delved into the file and their latest album JOURNAL FOR PLAGUE LOVERS, only features tracks penned by Edwards, who is now presumed dead.

But despite the fact that 14 years have now passed since his former band mate went missing, Wire told the Guardian that making an album based on Edwards' work was still very difficult and he was reluctant to release it even after it had been finished.

"I said, 'Let's just f****** dig a hole and bury it and make it even more of an art statement, say we've made this great album, but it's just too much to give away,'" he explained.

Fellow Manic James Dean Bradfield had other ideas though, Wire revealed.

"James was like: 'After I've done all that work? F*** off,'" the star said.

So the album is slated for release next week, but that does not mean it will be hitting the shelves in all shops, with supermarkets refusing to stock the CD because of its cover, which features a painting of a child's face covered in blood.

Wire also lamented the fact that although their choice of artwork was seen as unacceptable "the Pussycat Dolls poledancing" was seen as being alright.

Recently, the band forced the British National Party to stop using their hit IF YOU TOLERATE THIS, YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE NEXT, for a publicity campaign.

The song is about the International Brigade, a group who fought fascists in the Spanish Civil War.
