NEWTON: 'BULLIES MADE BETTY ROLE'

UGLY BETTY star BECKI NEWTON found it easy to play acid-tongued receptionist AMANDA in the hit show - because she had experienced bullying first hand in the past. Newton, 28, used her experience as a struggling actress in New York to portray the horribly offensive character in the magazine-based series. She says, "When I got the script for Ugly Betty, I just thought of every person I'd ever met in the New York fashion world and went into each audition imitating them. "There very over-the-top characters really do exist. I've met them."
