NEWTON ASKS CELEBRITIES TO GO GREEN

Actress THANDIE NEWTON has launched a one-woman campaign to persuade Hollywood's gas guzzlers to go green after trading in her BMW for a hybrid Toyota Prius. The CRASH star recently teamed up with environmental campaigners at Greenpeace to pen letters to celebrities asking them to switch to greener cars, and now she's planning to confront them one by one to drive her message home. She says, "I'm sure a lot of them (letters) were dealt with by their publicists. "I didn't want to be judgmental, like, `How dare you have a four-by-four.' It was more like, `Just in case you don't know... these are some facts about the environment and why it turns out four-by-fours aren't that great to have in the city.'" Newton made the switch herself after she realised she was polluting her children's future. She says, "I thought, `F**k, what do my kids really need: a healthy planet or a big car in the city?'"
