NEWMAN GIVEN POSTHUMOUS HONOUR

Hollywood legend PAUL NEWMAN was given a posthumous honour on Tuesday night (24Feb09) as the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution honouring the life, achievements and contributions of the late actor.
Rep. Steve Cohen, a Democrat from Tennessee, introduced the move honouring the Oscar winning star, who lost his battle with cancer in September (08), on the House floor in Washington.
Jim Jordan, a Republican from the actor's native state of Ohio, was among the House members to pay tribute to Newman.
He says, "His legendary acting, steely blue eyes, good humour and passion for helping the less fortunate made him one of the most prominent figures in American arts for 40 years."
Newman was nominated for 10 Oscars in his 50-year-long career, winning the Best Actor accolade for his role in The Color of Money in 1986.
