NEW PUBLIC ENEMY ALBUM TO BE FUNDED BY FANS
Rap legends PUBLIC ENEMY are urging fans to fund their next album in return for a share of the profits.
The group signed an agreement with SellaBand, an online fan funding engine, and is asking devotees to help raise $250,000 (£116,000) so it can hit the studio and record a new disc.
Fans will have to donate $25 (£16) each, and then receive a numbered copy of the record and a share in any revenue it pulls in.
Hip-hop icon Chuck D says, "SellaBand's financial engine model goes about restructuring the music business in reverse.
"It starts with fans first, then the artists create from there. The music business is built on searching for fans and this is a brand new way for acts to create a new album with fans first, already on board."
Public Enemy is the first hitmaking band to do a deal with the Holland-based brand. It will be the group's first record since 2007.
