NEW EDITION SONGWRITER PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO FIRST-DEGREE MURDER
A songwriter for R&B group NEW EDITION has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 21-year-old American university student.
Prosecutors claim 20-year-old Jabari Jordan Copney - listed as the writer of the group's track Feelin' It - went to the prestigious Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts with two friends on Monday (18May09) in an attempt to rob Justin Cosby in a drug-related crime.
But the heist went wrong and led to shots being fired that resulted in Cosby's death.
Cosby, a Cambridge resident who was not a student at the school, had been selling drugs to Harvard students, according to District Attorney Gerard Leone.
Copney entered his plea on Friday (22May09) in Medford, Massachusetts. He is currently being held without bail.
New Edition launched the career of Bobby Brown in the 1980s and have played a number of reunion shows since.
