NELSON CAMPAIGNS AGAINST HORSE CULLS

Country star WILLIE NELSON is lending his support to a proposed new bill outlawing horse slaughter. The Texan singer joins actress BO DEREK and RICHARD PRYOR's widow JENNIFER to voice his outrage of the practise, which sees thousands of the wild animals destroyed for their meat every year for overseas consumption. He says, "If you've ever been around horses a lot, especially wild horses, you know they are part of the American heritage. I don't think its right that we kill them and eat them." He added his own horses were treated better since learning more about the animal rights movement, joking, "I do have a lot of respect for my horses, a lot. I don't ride them as much as I used to and I think they appreciate it." The bill will be decided next month (07SEP06) as us politicians cast their votes on the issue.
