NE-YO WRITES OFF ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES

Grammy winner NE-YO refused to write an acceptance speech before hitting the red carpet at the annual prizegiving - because he was afraid he would ruin his chances of victory. The Closer hitmaker was nominated for six awards, and he had won two big honours by the time he arrived at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the big show on Sunday (08Feb09).
Ne-Yo didn't take the stage for those and told reporters on the red carpet he was only attending the awards to enjoy a night of star-studded performances.
And, although he admitted he'd be disappointed if he left the event empty-handed, he said, "I don't write acceptance speeches. Acceptance speeches assume victory. And I don't want to assume victory because, if I'm wrong, I look like an idiot.
"I'm going to go up there, I'm going to sit in my very nice suit next to my very beautiful young lady and I'm going to enjoy the show. If I win, cool, if I don't I'm going to cry somewhere where no one can see me."
