NBC AT TOP OF NIELSENS, BUT CBS WINS WEEK

NBC returned to the head of the class last week as America's Got Talent occupied the first, second and ninth positions on Nielsen Research's weekly network ratings chart. The network fared less well with the remainder of its programming, however, and wound up in second place with an average 3.2 rating and 6 share. On the other hand, CBS, whose highest-rated program, NCIS , ranked fourth on the Nielsen list, behind ABC's The Bachelorette, was by far the most-watched network, placing seven shows in the top-ten (actually, top twelve since there were two ties) and averaging a 4.1/8.. ABC and Fox tied for third with identical 2.9/5 numbers. Among the nightly news shows, NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams continued to lead with 7.8 million viewers. ABC World News With Charles Gibson placed second with 6.8 million viewers, while The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric remained far behind with 5.6 million viewers.
