MOVIES TO BE SIDELINED BY SUPER BOWL
Movie theaters will be competing against the Super Bowl this weekend, without a big female-oriented film premiering on their marquees -- an unusual occurrence on the weekend of the big game. The closest thing to a "chick flick" will be Lionsgate's New in Town , starring Renée Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr., but the movie has lacked any sort of buzz, is premiering in only 1941 theaters, and has garnered attrocious reviews. The film that is favored to come out on top at the box office this weekend is Taken, starring Liam Neeson, an action film that is expected to do most of its business on Friday and Saturday nights and wind up with $15-18 million. Also making its debut is the PG-13 rated horror flick The Uninvited, which is expected to earn around half that amount.
