MOVIE REVIEWS THE UNINVITED
It's not often that a horror film attracts anything but derision from critics, but The Uninvited is actually receiving some quite decent reviews. "I recoiled twice in the opening minutes of The Uninvited, and that's a good sign," writes Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times . "This is a well-crafted film that weaves a story not as predictable as it might seem." Likewise Claudia Puig remarks in USA Today that the movie "is well-paced and offers enough jolts and twists to keep an audience sufficiently on the edge of their seats to offset the price of admission." And Peter Hartlaub in the San Francisco Chronicle observes that the movie "won't make anyone forget The Shining , but "it's a nice throwback to the days when scary movies featured pretty good actors, a plot that holds together and a couple of creepy-looking ghost kids." But many critics are not nearly so generous. "By the time the credits rolled," writes A.O. Scott in the New York Times, "I wished that the title had referred to me." And Susan Walter in the Toronto Star cuts to the quick " The Uninvited ," she says, "makes up what it lacks in suspense with irritating effects and acting."
