MORRISON HOTEL GALLERY TO TAKE OVER CBGBS SPACE
The bosses of rock art gallery chain Morrison Hotel have taken over space that used to be punk mecca CBGBs in New York.
The gallery will share the old club site with designer John Varvatos' new clothing store.
The Morrison Hotel exhibition space will have a lot of features familiar to fans of CBGBs, which closed its doors in 2006, following a fight to stay open with landlords.
Gallery owner Rich Horowitz says, "We've left the original bathroom intact with all the famous graffiti and while we were developing the place we found 10th anniversary flyers for CBs - so we've framed and mounted them."
The new gallery will launch on 24 April (08) with an exhibition of Bob Gruen photos. The show will run for three months.
Gruen was a regular photographer at CBGBs in the venue's heyday and he also captured John Lennon, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, among others, on film.
Morrison Hotel has a second New York gallery and art spaces in Los Angeles and La Jolla, California.
