MONSTERS VS ALIENS ROARS BACK TO UK NUMBER ONE SPOT

Dreamworks animation Monsters vs Aliens has bounced back to the top of the UK and Ireland box office charts, after a week at number two.

The action-comedy, which is available in 3D, took £128,000 more than automotive thriller Fast & Furious - last week's number one - to reclaim the top spot.

Time travel caper 17 Again remained at number three with the highest new entry coming from so-called 'bromance' comedy I Love You, Man, at number four.

Jason Statham movie Crank 2: High Voltage entered the chart at number five while acclaimed political comedy In the Loop debuted at number eight, after a limited opening release.

The satire, a spin-off of Bafta-winning BBC comedy The Thick of It, was screened at 104 cinemas, only a quarter of its main rivals this weekend.

The top ten films at the UK box office are: (last week's position)

1 Monsters vs Aliens - £2.05 million (2)
2 Fast and Furious - £1.93 million (1)
3 17 Again - £1.77 million (3)
4 I Love You, Man - £1.12 million (-)
5 Crank 2: High Voltage - £554,565 (-)
6 The Boat That Rocked - £498,838 (4)
7 Race to Witch Mountain - £469,034 (6)
8 In the Loop - £468,954 (-)
9 Knowing - £312,250 (5)
10 Marley and Me - £304,433 (7)
