MONROE ROBE GOES UNDER THE HAMMER FOR $120,000
A MARILYN MONROE bathrobe, which sold at auction for $6,000 (£4,000) a decade ago, has gone under the hammer in Las Vegas for a staggering $120,000 (£80,000).
A private collector snapped up the robe on Saturday (27Jun09) during a two-day Julien's Auctions memorabilia sale, which also featured items which once belonged to Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.
The robe was originally sold by Christie's auction house in 1999.
A necklace belonging to Monroe was also among the highlights of the auction - it sold for $56,000 (£37,300).
The two-day sale raked in over $2 million (£1.3 million) over the weekend.
The highlight was a signed Jackson 5 album, which was expected to fetch between $400 (£266) and $600 (£400), but sold for a staggering $33,750 (£22,500).
