MONDAYS SINGER ADMITS SHE'D NEVER HEARD OF THE BAND
HAPPY MONDAYS singer JULIE E. GORDON almost blew her audition to join the band, when she admitted she'd never heard of the 80s chart toppers.
Six years ago Gordon landed a try-out to fill the role made famous in the band's heyday by vocalist Rowetta Satchell.
But she was convinced she'd wrecked her chances before she'd had the chance to show off her talent when she let slip to founding Mondays drummer Gary 'Gaz' Whelan she had no idea who she was auditioning for.
Gordon tells WENN, "I get to the studio and Gaz Whelan is standing in the reception and I said to him, 'What are you here for? I'm supposed to be here for some monkeys, some happy monkeys.
"He said, 'I'm one of the members of the Happy Mondays.'
"I wanted the earth to swallow me up. But he found it funny and I think he decided at that moment, that he wanted me in the band."
