'The O. C.' actress Mischa Barton has been overheard ''talking frantically'' on her phone about her fears she is being stalked.

Mischa Barton thinks she has a stalker.

The 'O. C.' actress - who was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold in Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last month - was overheard "talking frantically" about the stalker at New York's Sant Ambroeus restaurant on Saturday night (01.08.09).

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "She was upset and talking frantically into her phone about having a stalker. Her friends were trying to console her, but she went outside and chain-smoked cigarettes."

In an unusual coincidence, the 23-year-old star plays a teen stalker in new film 'Homecoming'.

Mischa was hospitalised for two weeks under a 5150 hold - which allows people to be forcibly held if they are deemed a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or have a mental disorder - after friends became worried she was suicidal.

It is claimed Mischa had been using drugs and alcohol to cope with financial problems and her turbulent love life.
