MIRREN BEGS ROYAL PARDON FOR QUEEN ROLE

DAME HELEN MIRREN is concerned her performance as British royal QUEEN ELIZABETH II in her latest movie may have offended the monarch. The actress, who stars in THE QUEEN, depicts the monarch's emotional turmoil following the tragic death of DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES, in a car accident in 1997. But Mirren fears the fictional version of events may upset the monarch, and is begging for her understanding. She says, "I'd be devastated if she feels that I've betrayed her in my portrayal of her. "I find her duty and self-sacrifice incredible virtues." The movie premieres at the Venice Film Festival in August (06).
