MINGHELLA PAYS TRIBUTE TO IMMIGRANTS

Oscar-winning director ANTHONY MINGHELLA has paid tribute to the "invisible people" who make up Britain's immigrant population. THE ENGLISH PATIENT film-maker, whose new movie BREAKING AND ENTERING charts a Bosnian refugee's struggles in London, is fed up with the country's continuing row over rising immigration figures and insists the UK owes a huge debt for their labour. He says, "In London today, we rely on an invisible group of people who come here and do the jobs that we are loathe to do. "They're largely invisible to the welfare state, but they make up a high percentage of this great city." Breaking And Entering star JULIETTE BINOCHE, whose grandmother was a Polish immigrant, adds her support, saying, "I loved that Anthony wanted to address what it is to be an immigrant."
