MICK JONES: 'JAIL WON'T HELP DOHERTY'

THE CLASH co-founder MICK JONES is adamant prison is the worst place for incarcerated singer PETE DOHERTY - because the experience won't cure him of his drug addiction.
The Babyshambles star was jailed on Tuesday (08Apr08) for "breach of time-keeping, non-compliance of his (probation) order and using different drugs", and has just started serving a 14-week sentence at London's Wormwood Scrubs Prison.
But Jones - who has worked with Doherty in the past - insists the time behind bars will be of no benefit to the star, because drug-taking is more prevalent there than in the outside world.
And the guitarist feels sorry for Doherty's jail term, branding him a "sweet guy".
Speaking to Uncut.co.uk, Jones says, "He's a lovely, sweet guy who's been trying really hard to sort himself out.
"Jail isn't going to sort him out. I mean there are more drugs inside prison than there are out."
