MEPS ANGRY OVER ABSENT ROBERT KILROY-SILK
Robert Kilroy-Silk is under pressure for keeping his salary as an MEP while he sweats it out on ITV's I'm a Celebrity
Get Me out of Here!
The former chatshow host, sacked by the BBC after branding Arabs as "suicide bombers, limb amputators and women repressors", has come under criticism for featuring on the programme.
Critics say he will not be able to represent his constituents despite receiving around £3,000 in taxpayers' money. George Galloway gave up his MP's salary when appearing on Celebrity Big Brother.
And Mr Kilroy-Silk's failings have been pointed out by MEPs including former colleagues.
UK Independence party MEP Derek Clark suggested to the Press Association: "As Robert will not be attending work, I wonder if he will give his parliamentary wage and allowances for the time he is on this show to a suitable charity?"
Labour MEP Glenis Willmott criticised him, adding: "I think it shows a complete lack of respect for voters.
"I think it is an absolute disgrace," he told the Daily Mail newspaper.
Labour MEP Glyn Ford has even asked the European parliament's president whether Mr Kilroy Silk sought permission for leave of absence from the current session.
Kilroy-Silk is receiving £15,000 to go on the programme where he and ten other contestants fight it out to become king of the jungle.
Last night contestants where forced to sleep on the flooded jungle floor after a storm destroyed the camp's electricity supply.
