MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK FOR PETTY

TOM PETTY credits MUDCRUTCH bandmate TOM LEADON for helping him claw back lost memories from the 60s.
The rocker had feared that age had robbed him of recollections from the beginning of his music career - when he was a member of Mudcrutch.
The swamp-rock act disbanded when Petty found success with The Heartbreakers in Los Angeles, and the rock star has struggled with memories of his early days for years.
But when he reunited Mudcrutch last year (07), Petty admits that time spent with old pal Leadon brought the old memories flooding back.
He says, "We'd get home (after shows), and then Tom would cook. He's a very healthy, very careful eater. So he'd go make some meal for himself that seemed to take forever to cook. And we'd all wind up sitting in the kitchen talking about the shows, old times, and so forth.
"Tom has a memory like a steel trap. He really can remember everything that ever happened to him. Sometimes he'd just take us back
down memory lane - he could dive back into the 60s like it was yesterday... It would be like, 'I forgot that guy completely.'
"It was endless fun having someone around with a memory like that. (Bandmate) Randall (Marsh) and I were missing some big chunks of time that Tom gave back to us."
