MCGREGOR UPSET ABOUT POLANSKI TREATMENT

EWAN MCGREGOR has become the latest celebrity to come out in support of filmmaker ROMAN POLANSKI, who is in detention in Switzerland for a 32-year-old sexual assault.
The director was arrested while attending a film festival in Zurich last month (Sep09) and is now fighting extradition to the U.S. - the country he fled from on the eve of sentencing in 1978.
Some of Hollywood's biggest names have voiced their disapproval over the way Polanski has been treated, while others are adamant the exiled director should return to face justice, even though the 13-year-old girl he sexually assaulted at a Hollywood party has forgiven the filmmaker - and insists he has been punished enough for what he did.
And now MCGregor, who recently worked with Polanski on The Ghost, has weighed in with his thoughts, revealing he was "pretty upset" when he heard the director had been detained by Swiss officials.
He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "I don't like to think of him sitting in a prison cell."
MCGregor also can't understand why Swiss officials waited 32 years to get involved with the case against Polanski.
He adds, "It seems odd... He's been living in Switzerland for years and I've visited him there, so this is all very strange."
But MCGregor is keen to point out he's biased - because he's very "fond" of the director, even though he's a tough guy to work for.
He explains, "He's got quite a brusque manner, so you have to have a thick skin. That said, I'm very fond of him. He's one of the very few completely brilliant directors that I've worked with."
