MCFADDEN: 'I'M NOT HOMOPHOBIC'
LATEST: Irish pop star BRIAN MCFADDEN has hit back at claims he's homophobic, insisting comments he made on a New Zealand radio show have been taken out of context.
The former Westlife star prompted outrage from gay groups when he poked fun at men who wear pink during an interview on More FM.
MCFadden joked, "If you are not gay, a man should not be wearing pink. Saying pink is a form of red is the same as saying homosexual is a form of male."
The remarks made unwelcome headlines for the star and led to pro-gay activists to attack MCFadden, calling him a "homophobe".
The singer is now fighting back, claiming there's no way he's anti-gay.
In a statement, he says, "To come to the conclusion that I am homophobic from these sentences is far from the truth. Some of my friends and colleagues are gay and if I was truly homophobic then I have picked the wrong industry."
MCFadden's former Westlife bandmate Mark Feehily is homosexual.
