MCDANIELS LAUNCHES CLEAN-CUT RAP TALENT CONTEST
RUN-DMC co-founder DARRYL 'DMC' MCDANIELS is cleaning up hip-hop - he's launching a TV talent show to find a positive role model for rap fans.
The It's Like That legend is developing reality series The Kings Of Rap - an American Idol style show to try and uncover new hip-hop hopefuls.
Aspiring rappers will battle to land a recording contract and mentoring from MCDaniels.
But there is a catch - the wannabes are banned from glorifying guns, sex or violence, which the rap legend insists have become too prevalent in mainstream hip-hop.
He says, "There are so many talented kids out there who don't get heard or don't get signed because they're not controversial enough, or they're too positive. That amazes me.
"The spirit of hip-hop was always about changing the world or yourself, not with a gun or with denigrating or offensive words, but by being effective with your mind. This is a time when everyone is talking about change, and we as a country have the opportunity to make a difference."
