MCCARTNEY MAKES TRIUMPHANT LIVE RETURN

Paul McCartney made a triumphant live return last night with an intimate gig at the Camden Electric Ballroom in London.

The former Beatle's last show was Live 8, so a small Camden club in front of an audience of 1,000 was quite a change for Sir Paul.

He played a number of Beatles classics along with new tracks from his album Memory Almost Full.

Before kicking things off with Drive My Car, the musician said: "It's a little while since I played a gig like this," prompting huge cheers from the audience.

During the set he sang Here Today, which he wrote for John Lennon. "This one was written for John," he said. "I would like to dedicate this song to all our fallen heroes - John, George, Linda and all the lovely people."

Sir Paul finished with an encore of Let it Be, Lady Madonna and I Saw Her Standing There.

Daughters Stella and Mary McCartney were at the show to support their father, along with Kate Moss, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and actor Pierce Brosnan.

Sir Paul's latest record is released on the Hear Music label, part of the Starbuck coffee house chain.

The star didn't mention his estranged wife Heather Mills McCartney during the show and appeared to be enjoying his return to the live scene.
