MCCARTNEY AND STARR REUNITE FOR MEDITATION CAUSE
Surviving BEATLES legends PAUL MCCARTNEY and RINGO STARR reunited on Saturday (04Apr09) to raise money to promote the meditation technique they practised in the 1960s.
MCCartney was joined at the microphone by Starr to play their 1967 hit With a Little Help From My Friends at New York City's Radio City Music Hall as part of director David Lynch's Change Begins Within concert in aid of Transcendental Meditation.
Both stars became avid meditators in 1967 after The Beatles' trip to India, where they sought spiritual guidance from guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
And MCCartney was keen to tell the audience how the Eastern relaxation method has the power to change people for the better.
He told the crowd: "It started for us when we met the Maharishi in India and it's going to get bigger and bigger and rule the world."
MCCartney and Starr last took the stage together in November 2002 to pay tribute to bandmember George Harrison at the Concert for George in London's Royal Albert Hall following Harrison's death from cancer.
Their set concluded an evening of performances from fellow meditation fanatics, including Sheryl Crow, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper and others.
