MAY NAMED CHANCELLOR AT LIVERPOOL UNIVERSITY
QUEEN rocker BRIAN MAY has been named as the next chancellor to Liverpool John Moores University in England. The guitarist, who recently completed a doctorate in astrophysics, will take up his new post early next year (08). May became an honorary fellow of the university earlier this year (07) in recognition of his contribution to the arts. John Moores University's vice chancellor Michael Brown says, "In this age of celebrity culture, it is rare to find someone who has fame, fortune and universal acclaim, and yet who remains true to his core values of learning and enlightenment." May will be the fourth chancellor of the university. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair's wife Cherie was the third. She held the post from 1999 to 2006.
