MAXIM MAGAZINE APOLOGIES OVER BLACK CROWES ALBUM REVIEW
Maxim magazine in the US has issued an apology after publishing a review of the new Black Crowes album even though the writer had not heard the CD in full.
In March's issue of the magazine, Maxim gave the new Warpaint album 2.5 out of five.
The band however responded claiming that advance copies of the album were not available at that time and that the journalist would only have been able to listen to one of the tracks, the new single Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution.
In a statement published on the Black Crowes' website, Pete Angelus the band's manager said that: "Maxim's actions seem to completely lack journalistic integrity and intentionally mislead their readership.
"It speaks directly to the lack of the publication's credibility. In my opinion, it's a disgrace to the arts, journalism, critics the publications itself and the public."
Maxim's editor director James Kaminsky issued a statement apologising to its readers.
"It is Maxim's editorial policy to assign star ratings only to those albums that have been heard in their entirety. Unfortunately, that policy was not followed in the March 2008 issue of our magazine and we apologise to our readers," Kaminsky said.
Angelus however claimed the statement was not enough: "In my opinion, Maxim's 'apology' is self-serving damage control by failing to mention the Black Crowes.
"The appropriate action for Maxim is to immediately issue a public apology to the Black Crowes for disparaging both the band and their soon to be released new album Warpaint without having heard the material."
The album is the first by the band in seven years and is due to be released in the UK on March 3rd.
