MARTIN CONFIDENT OF BEATLES CHART SUCCESS

LATEST: Legendary British producer SIR GEORGE MARTIN is confident the new BEATLES album will outsell OASIS' greatest hits compilation when both albums go head-to-head tomorrow (20NOV06). Martin, who was the Fab Four's original producer, believes The Beatles' LOVE will triumph in the battle of the back catalogues. Love has been produced by Martin and his son GILES, and is the soundtrack to The Beatles-inspired Cirque du Soleil show of the same name, while Oasis' effort is an 18-track collection of the band's greatest hits. Although full of praise for the GALLAGHER brothers, Martin believes STOP THE CLOCKS can't match The Beatles new CD of experimental mixes. He says, "I think the Gallaghers are very talented people. They are a very good group indeed, but not as good as The Beatles." Martin and son made the disc after the surviving Beatles, RINGO STARR and SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY, alongside JOHN LENNON's widow YOKO ONO and GEORGE HARRISON's widow OLIVIA, approached him to create a Beatles soundscape for the show, which debuted in Las Vegas, Nevada in June (06).
