MARR: 'ENGLISH CAN'T GET OVER BEATLES' SPLIT'

British rock bands try to copy THE BEATLES, because as a nation they have never got over the Fab Four's split, according to rocker JOHNNY MARR. The MODEST MOUSE guitarist was previously co-founder and guitarist of THE SMITHS, fronted by MORRISSEY. When the band split, he was seen as the catalyst and received bitter abuse from fans, prompting his move to the United States. Portland-based Marr says, "The English can't get over the fact that the Beatles split up so they try and make everyone else take their place." "It's not like that in America and that partly explains why I'm here."
