MAROULIS BRAWLS 'OVER ABDUL DEPARTURE'

Former AMERICAN IDOL star CONSTANTINE MAROULIS is recovering after he was reportedly assaulted at a party in New York during an argument over PAULA ABDUL's recent departure from the TV talent show.
Maroulis is said to have been attacked at an event in New York City on Wednesday (05Aug09) after expressing his desire for Abdul to return to the series, which made him a household name in the U.S. after he finished sixth on the fourth season.
But another partygoer apparently didn't agree with Maroulis, now starring in the Broadway musical Rock Of Ages, and took action by violently hurling himself at the star.
A source tells the New York Daily News, "Constantine got into it with this guy who was probably six inches shorter and 60 pounds lighter. The guy body-slammed him and punched him in the face and then just stood up, straightened his tie, and said, 'B***h, don't you ever,' before walking away."
The unidentified attacker was so well-dressed, flabbergasted guards allegedly allowed him to walk away from the scene without consequence.
The insider adds, "Security didn't know what to make of this guy. He was so wellgroomed in his suit, and he didn't look like a threat at all. Constantine was so overwhelmed he just sat there on the floor for a few minutes."
Abdul stunned fans after quitting her position on the judging panel of Idol earlier this week (beg03Aug09).
