MAMMA MIA! BECOMES BIGGEST EVER U.K. FILM
Movie musical MAMMA MIA! has become the biggest British movie ever after taking $104.52 million (GBP67 million) at the U.K. box office.
The film adaptation of the hit stage musical stars Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, and continues to draw audiences four months after its release in July (08).
The ABBA movie surpasses previous British record-holder Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which took $102.9 million (GBP66 million) upon its 2001 release.
Mamma Mia! has also gone on to become Universal Pictures' most profitable project ever.
Universal President David Kosse says, "This is fantastic. The quality of the filmmaking and the resonance of this feelgood story have made the movie, like the stage play, a global phenomenon."
