MAGUIRE EARNS RESPECT FOR BATTLING BACK PAIN

TOBEY MAGUIRE has earned the lasting respect of SPIDER-MAN director SAM RAIMI and producer LAURA ZISKIN after agreeing to take on death-defying stunts with a chronic back injury. Raimi insists he uses stuntmen when he can, but often asks his star to brace himself for something dangerous when he needs to get a shot of the real Spider-Man in action. He says, "He's got to do everything he could possibly do as Spider-Man. Stuntmen can fill in for the wide shots... but he's had to do a tremendous amount of physical action, of rolling, tumbling, leaping, landing, punching, fighting, falling." Ziskin adds, "We're always careful with him. I mean, he has chronic problems and he works on it and he has a chiropractor."
