MADONNA AUCTIONS SHOES FOR GYPSY CHARITY

MADONNA is taking steps to help educate gypsy children - she's auctioning off a pair of her favourite Christian Dior shoes to raise money for a Roma charity.
The pop superstar has handed over a pair of gold stilettos to Ovidiu Rom, a charity supporting schooling for Roma children. The heels will be sold at the organisation's annual ball to raise funds.
Leslie Hawke, president of Ovidiu Rom, says, "Madonna's very mild comment regarding equality shone a spotlight on a common European attitude toward gypsies.
"We're thrilled to have her donation because she is such an icon of innovation and vigour and 'can do' spirit."
The Holiday hitmaker spoke out against the discrimination facing gypsies in eastern Europe during a gig in Bucharest in August (09), only to be booed by the 60,000-strong crowd.
