MACY'S TURN IN MAMET PLAY PAYS OFF
WILLIAM H. MACY's decision to take over JEREMY PIVEN's role in DAVID MAMET's SPEED-THE-PLOW has paid off for the producers of the Broadway play - the production has recouped its investment.
Piven was forced to quit last year (08) after suffering mercury poisoning, and Fargo star MACy, a longtime friend of Mamet, stepped in to save the show.
Speed-The-Plow joins Katie Holmes' turn in All My Sons among the handful of hits in the current theatre season on Broadway.
MACy's co-stars in the play are Raul Esparza and newly-engaged actress Elisabeth Moss.
Speed-The-Plow will conclude its limited run on 22 February (09).
The producers have lodged a grievance with actors' union Equity about Piven's departure.
