LYDON: 'PUBLIC IMAGE REUNION IS THERAPY'
JOHN LYDON has reformed PUBLIC IMAGE LTD. in an effort to "unleash" the emotion he had built up since the death of his father last year (08).
The Sex Pistols frontman will hit the stage with his second most famous band for a string of shows in Britain in December (09), and he admits the concerts will serve him as much as the fans.
Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten, explains, "PiL is a very personal thing for me and I'd been through a lot of personal things recently.
"Last year my dad died and my brother went through chemo treatment for cancer... My brother's recovering and so am I as far as the shock of my dad dying is concerned, but I need some PiL in my life so I can unleash some genuine emotion."
Lydon created the group in 1978, a year after the Sex Pistols split. Public Image Ltd. thrived in the post-punk era, but have been on hiatus since 1992.
The punk icon has recruited The Damned guitarist Lu Edmonds, former Slits drummer Bruce Smith and bassist Scott Firth for the tour, which kicks off in Birmingham, England on 15 December and concludes in London on 21 December (09).
