LOVETT CANCELS UK TOUR

LYLE LOVETT has cancelled his forthcoming UK tour because it clashes with his recording schedule, despite the country singer recently claiming promoters were not confident he would sell enough tickets. The COWBOY MAN hitmaker, 48, was set to start his seven-date trek in Birmingham, England on 5 October (06), but his publicist has confirmed the tour has been pulled "due to recording commitments". However, in a recent interview with Canadian newspaper Toronto Star, Lovett blamed promoter Live Nation for cancelling the shows because they didn't think the tickets were selling fast enough. He said, "We'd sold a thousand tickets already for the Albert Hall (London) show, which I thought was pretty good more than two months out. That's more than a quarter of the house. They suggested that maybe we'd postpone the tour and do it another time, but I didn't want to give them any excuse to hang on to those folks' money. "I'm really big about not cancelling things myself. We cancelled a show over there a few years back when my dad passed away and just haven't been over there as regularly since then." Lovett is hoping to record a follow-up album to MY BABY WON'T TOLERATE, which was released three years ago (03).
