LOS ANGELES TIMES SCRAPS GUEST EDITORS AFTER GRAZER DEBACLE
LATEST: The publisher of the Los Angeles Times has scrapped a programme of selecting big names to take charge of the newspaper's Sunday opinion section days after cancelling producer BRIAN GRAZER's journalism debut.
Grazer was scheduled to become the first celebrity to edit the supplement last week (ends23MAR07), but the project was cancelled due to a conflict of interest scandal.
Times publisher DAVID HILLER cancelled Grazer's editorial stint after learning the producer's publicist had dated editorial page editor ANDRES MARTINEZ, who came up with the guest editor idea. Martinez has subsequently resigned.
Hiller insists he had no option but to scrap the occasional guest editor spots, stating, "We don't need all these questions when we have so many features of value to deliver our readers."
