'The Gossip' singer Beth Ditto listens to depressing music to ease the pain of being apart from her partner when she's on tour.

Beth Ditto dances to sad songs when she misses her partner.

The Gossip singer spends a lot of time on the road away from her long-term lover Freddie - a transgendered individual who was born a female - and finds depressing music improves her mood.

The 28-year-old star said: "If you think about what it means to be on tour and be gone for six months out of the year and to date someone for so long, then all of a sudden they're just gone. My favourite songs are sad songs you can dance to."

Gossip recently released their fourth studio album, 'Music For Men', a "sassy" record Beth has compared to a beautiful flower.

She explained: "It's sassy, it's in your face. It's really delicate and so strong at the same time. It was like an orchid - don't give it too much water, too much sunlight. In fact, don't let it touch the ground ever."

Beth also spoke about her plans to re-record her song 'For Keeps' with former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.

She added to NME magazine: "I was like, 'I really think Jarvis should do this,' but he was in the studio at the same time we were. Someday I'd like to re-record it as a duet."
