LONDON TURNS GREEK FOR MAMMA MIA STARS

London's Leicester Square turned Greek last night as it played host to the premiere of Mamma Mia.

Stars of the film walked up a blue carpet, meant to represent the sparkling Aegean sea of the film, and a white wooden church was placed in the square.

With the sounds of Mamma Mia playing to the crowds, the film's actors, including Pierce Brosnan, Meryl Streep and Colin Firth, and executive producer Tom Hank posed for pictures before watching the film.

Mamma Mia, the film version of the hit stage musical of the same name, sees 20-year-old Sophie invite three men who could potentially be her father to her wedding on a small Greek island.

Hollywood legend Streep plays her mother, Donna, while Brosnan, Firth and Stellan Skarsgard are the 'dads'.

Brosnan admitted yesterday that audiences would "howl" with laughter at the film.

Other A-listers include Julie Walters while relative newcomers Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Big Love) and Dominic Cooper (Sense and Sensibility, The History Boys) star as the young lovers.

The UK release date for Mamma Mia is July 10th.
