LONDON AND NYC THEATRELANDS PAY TRIBUTE TO RICHARDSON

Theatres in London and New York have paid tribute to the late Natasha Richardson by dimming their lights before all evening performances on Friday.

Broadway theatres simultaneously dimmed their lights at 20:00 EST (0:00 GMT) in tribute to the 45-year-old actress, who died after a skiing accident in Canada earlier this week.

Richardson, who was married to Hollywood A-lister Liam Neeson, was also remembered in her native London as theatres dimmed their lights for two minutes before various performances between 19:00 GMT and 20:00 GMT.

In a statement, the Society of London Theatre said the move was "a gesture of condolence at this sad time", adding that the 52 venues had been more than willing to perform the tribute "as a mark of respect for both Natasha Richardson and her immediate family, and for the Redgrave family as a whole who have made such a unique contribution to British theatre."
