LOLLOBRIGIDA BLASTS MEDIA FOR BROKEN ENGAGEMENT

LATEST: Italian actress GINA LOLLOBRIGIDA has launched a scathing attack on the media, blaming the European press for the end of her relationship to entrepreneur JAVIER RIGAU RAFOLS. After 22 years together, the couple recently announced their plans to marry in Rome in January (07) - but last Wednesday (06DEC06) Rigau called off their engagement and their relationship. In a statement, Rigau, 45, said he "loved and respected" the 79-year-old actress, but could not go on with wedding plans following excessive media intrusion in his native Spain and Italy. Devastated Lollobrigida is planning to sue several publications and radio/tv stations and is campaigning to change international law to protect citizens from sensationalist press. She says, "It's a disgrace, it can't be allowed to go on. If these people know they will be taken off the air and they will have to pay massive fines then I'm sure this vileness will stop. "I have decided to try to get the law changed, I am only a little person but I have a great desire to succeed. "In a way I feel responsible that he has suffered all this because he is linked to me - I am more used to having falsehoods written about me."
