LLOYD WEBBER WON'T WRITE "NONSENSE SONG" FOR EUROPE

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has insisted that he will not write a "silly nonsense song" for the UK's entry in next year's Eurovision Song Contest.

The composer has been approached to write the song for the UK's entry next year and is also searching for an act to perform it.

Speaking to Radio Times about his role in Britain's entry to the annual competition, Sir Andrew said: "These may be famous last words, but I do find melodies quite easy. I have done so much in my career in different styles and I'm not really worried about it."

He added: "If I find a straightforward R&B act then I might be in trouble. I'm always very lyric-driven because I'm from the theatre, and one of our tasks for this is going to be a lyric that suits the performer. I'm not going to go for some silly nonsense song."

The Eurovision 2009 grand final will be held in Moscow on May 16. UK coverage of the event will be hosted by Graham Norton after Terry Wogan made good on his promise to stop his own involvement with the competition.
