LIL WAYNE PLEADS GUILTY TO GUN POSSESSION CHARGE

Rap superstar LIL WAYNE faces a year behind bars after pleading guilty to a 2007 gun possession charge.
The Lollipop hitmaker, real name Dwayne Carter, was charged with a second degree felony of criminal weapons possession and criminal possession of a loaded weapon, following his arrest in New York two years ago when cops found a firearm on his tourbus.
Wayne entered a not guilty plea earlier this year (09) and was facing up to 15 years in prison for each count if he was convicted of the crimes, but the star changed his plea when he returned to a Manhattan court room on Thursday (22Oct09).
Now, it's likely the hip-hop star will be sentenced to serve between eight and 10 months in prison when he returns to court in February (10).
Wayne reportedly accepted a plea deal to avoid a lengthy prison sentence.
The rapper won't be looking forward to the New Year - he's also due to stand trial in March (10) on drug possession charges following an unrelated arrest in Yuma, Arizona in January 2008.
