LI NAMED GOODWILL AMBASSADOR
Chinese action star JET LI has been selected as a United Nations (U.N.) Goodwill Ambassador to work on key health issues.
The actor has been hailed for his community work by the U.N.'s World Health Organisation (WHO) Director General Margaret Chan, who has cited his commitment to helping others as a "great asset" to the organisation.
The Beijing native founded his charity the One Foundation, which aims to help victims of natural disasters, after his family had a brush with death in the 2004 Asian tsunami.
Li says: "If we do not take care of our bodies, we will not be able to do many things. This is our common belief, and I will do my very best to spread this shared belief to the world."
A spokesperson for the WHO adds, "Jet Li is expected to use his worldwide celebrity to raise attention on key health issues including public health responses to emergencies and mental health."
Li will attend the launch of the World Health Day in Beijing on 7 April (09) in his new capacity for WHO.
