LI JOINS AID EFFORT IN TYPHOON-STRUCK TAIWAN
Chinese actor JET LI has joined aid workers in Taiwan to hand out urgently needed supplies to survivors of the vicious typhoon which devastated areas of the country last week (ends09Aug09).
The action star has teamed up the Red Cross to dish out boxes of food and relief supplies to the thousands of people who have lost their homes in the floods and mudslides.
It is thought the island-wide death toll could be as high as 500.
And Li, who is an ambassador for the World Health Organization, has urged the Taiwanese government to step up their relief efforts.
He says, "It will get better. Everybody is working very hard. We should have more understanding and give more encouragement."
On Friday (14Aug09), Li took part in a celebrity fundraiser which helped raise 1.1 billion Taiwan dollars ($33 million/£22 million) to aid typhoon victims.
