LENNOX IS A WOMAN OF PEACE

Eighties pop icon ANNIE LENNOX has been lauded by the Nobel Peace Laureates for helping to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.
The former Eurythmics star was honoured as the 2009 Woman of Peace at a Nobel summit in Berlin, Germany on Wednesday (11Nov09) in recognition of her extensive philanthropy.
Lennox, 54, has been a leading celebrity voice in the fight against the deadly disease for almost two decades, setting up the SING campaign in 2003 to promote education and health care for women and children in South Africa affected by the virus.
But the modest singer chose to dedicate her award to her fellow female activists, telling the crowd, "I want to express my profound gratitude and deep humility. I honour all the women working around the globe to reduce the effects of this pandemics. This is for them, they truly deserve it."
Lennox was also presented with a piece of the Berlin Wall, which was brought down in 1989, at the ceremony.
