LEE SPARKS FILM FIGHT WITH PERRY
Outspoken moviemaker SPIKE LEE has picked a new film fight with actor/director TYLER PERRY after suggesting the MADEA GOES TO JAIL star's hit films are a step backwards for African-Americans.
The Do The Right Thing director accuses Perry of "coonery and buffoonery" in his films - comments the younger filmmaker has taken exception to.
In a taped interview for U.S. news show 60 Minutes, Perry says, "That p**ses me off. It really does - because it's so insulting.
"It's attitudes like that that make Hollywood think that these people (his characters) do not exist and that's why there's no material speaking to them, speaking to us. I would love to read that to my fan base."
It's not the first time Lee has picked a fight with a big name movie icon - he attacked Quentin Tarantino over the use of the 'N' word in his films and also took aim at Clint Eastwood for failing to include African-Americans in his war movies Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima.

Here's the thing with Spike Lee and his views on Tyler Perry.
He's right.
He's right.
He's right.
But Perry knows his audience. He knows that the people who come to see his
movies and turn on his TV show are
not going to the movies to have their minds stimulated. That's why those people
don't "get" Spike Lee movies.
Unfortunately, Tyler Perry is going to see that his core fan base will not turn
out for Precious as the they do for Madea.
Dear Mr. Lee,
I am so disappointed in you as an up and coming African-American female
filmmaker. Because you are a Pisces border Aries, I gave you a lot of respect,
even after you dismissed my band and I at your "Do the right thing", book
signing in New York many moons ago. Must I say this, you know what its like to
fight Hollywood, but your upscale life, has you confused.
Coming from dysfunction was not a part of your life, to many of us it has, and
always will be an existence. I pray that Mr. Perry, does not respond to your
verbal assault. Who are you to judge this man, when he is making many people
laugh, cry, think, and believe... Honestly speaking, his films have more depth
then yours did. Madea is a stepping stone, just like your "She's gotta have
it", was for you.
I pray that this is not jealousy on your part, and just a ploy to get
attention, because you got some from me.
All these years I thought you where from New York, but Georgia, but it took a
man from New Orleans to do something you never did,in Georgia. Build a
studio,on 31 acres, STOP thinking like a bush, and contribute to the black
community. This man is employing 400 individuals, and surpassed you in
film,plays,and television.
It does sound like jealousy. You'll never admit it though. Ego, ego, ego.
This man is tall, dark, handsome, and he didn't have to belittle anyone. You
sound like his abusive father. I wonder where he is? talking junk like you?
WOW!!!!
